A composite resin filling also known as a white filling is a tooth colored plastic mixture filled with glass silicon and is a composite quartz resin that usually contains some sort of light sensitive agent. White Composite fillings tend to be used as an alternative to metal or silver amalgam fillings and are used to treat decay on a portion of a tooth to replace an old silver amalgam filling and to maintain a white smile. Composite filling have various advantages over conventional fillings. The composite fillings are best considered for cosmetic reasons as they are tooth colored and are preferred for the front teeth. However many people, also get them done on back teeth as so to avoid the appearance of silver fillings on opening the mouth.
